The price of basics

I went out to the store today for the basics, and I came home completely sticker shocked!!!!! Gas was up to $3.29 for Unleaded, it was $3.19 yesterday. Not quite a bargain, but at least a little less. One gallon of milk is now $3.98 for the Wal-Mart brand, and $4.42 for Hiland! Last week milk was $2.90 for the Wal-Mart brand. Even eggs are getting a little pricey at $1.38 for a dozen.

The milk prices are what worry me the most. Thade drinks about three to four gallons of milk a week. I try (my hardest) to keep the grocery bill around $100.00 per week, and if you figure in $16.00 in milk that is a big chunk of the budget. Add in diapers, wipes and Pull-Ups too, and it looks like it is going to be Ramen Noodles on the menu for quite a while.

How are you coping with the increase in gas and grocery prices, and still staying on budget?

Today’s To Do List

I’m off with the boys for another shopping adventure today. We are going to Walgreens and Dillons for supplies for next weeks B-B-Q. It is still raining, so I know Dylan won’t be too happy with this shopping trip.

Here is the plan for today:

* Put away 3 loads of laundry
* Homemaker’s Journal room to clean- Living Room
* Go shopping at Walgreens, and Dillons
*Pay Bills and balance checkbook
*Wash and put away dishes

This weekend I’m getting the house ready for company. I need to clean everywhere. I also need to get my Walgreens rebates sent out this weekend too, I don’t want to miss out on those gift cards.

Total Wash Out

Well I only made it to one store today, bummer I missed out on the free milk at Dillons.

I had taken both of the boys to Wal-Mart for a grocery run, I put Dylan in the snugli and Thade in the cart and off we went. The weather was very warm and sunny when we left the house, but as I was checking out I heard a loud clap of thunder. It was pouring outside. My hubby called and was hoping that I wasn’t out shopping, but yep there I was checking out. I hoped that maybe the rain would calm down a little so we made our way to the exit. I saw a slight break in the rain storm, put a burp cloth over Dylan, and we made a run for the car. Just then the rain came pouring down, Thade was soaked, Dylan was screaming, and I was a drippy mess. I got Thade in the car, Dylan next, and then an associate spotted me, and put my groceries in the trunk. The poor guy was soaked too, but what a good Samaritan, I really appreciated all of the help. Poor Dylan was so upset, he is not too fond of bath time, and he really isn’t fond of Summertime rain showers. Thade thought it was funny getting drenched at Wal-Mart, and I had to laugh too.

Every item was wet, so I had a fun time drying off all of the groceries. Hey, at least the kids don’t have to take a bath tonight.

What to do Today

I’m debating on making another run to Dillons for more cereal, today is the last day for the buy 3 for $6.00 + Free Milk sale. I’ve also got to run to Wal-Mart for Pull-Ups and cat food. Maybe the best bet would be to go to Walgreens for Pull-Ups they are on sale this week. Dylan is still sleeping, so I have a little bit of time to get my lists together. Either way I think I’m shopping at 2-3 stores today.

All Finished

Whew! I’m so tired, but I’m all finished with my shopping. I ended up going to 4 stores in 2 days with 2 very grumpy boys. I’ve got one tired back from carrying Dylan in the Snugli, but my savings were huge. Yahoo for me! I’m going to post my totals soon. Both of the boys are napping right now, so I had better get to the laundry while I have a chance.
