Winter Knitting and Crochet

My knitting needles and crochet hooks have been busy this Winter. I have two biggish projects going on, and lots and lots of little ones.

Since it is extra cold and full-on Winter. I’ve been attempting to crochet hats. This was the first one that I made. It turned out o.k.

IMG_7876

I finished knitting a little scarf for me. Honestly, I love making scarves, but I don’t like wearing them at all. The weather has been so cold while I’m waiting to get Agnes out of school, that I have to wear one, even though it drives me nuts. I do love this color combination though, soft greys and light yellow.

One of the ongoing projects for the year is a crocheted Temperature Blanket. I’ve seen these on pinterest and I figured right from the start of 2017 was the best time to get into this project.

I gathered up my yarn, and assigned a different color to the temperature of the day. You simply crochet a row a day, and by the end of the year, you have a blanket. I’m using black wool in between the rows  when a new month begins.

I had two requests for a messy bun hat. Agnes wanted one, and so did a friend that I wait in the very chilly school pick-up line with. I started with Agnes’. She chose a bright pink, and she loved the finished project. It fit her perfectly.

IMG_7896

I went with a muted berry color for my friend’s, and she liked it too. Both of the hats were quick to crochet. They looked silly on me though, my hair is too short to put up right now.

The temperature blanket is coming along. I haven’t forgotten a day (yet).

IMG_7924

I’m still working on a twin sized knitted and crocheted blanket for Agnes. It is made of squares, and rectangles that have been knitted or crocheted. I make one square at a time, and sew it all together like a big cozy blanket puzzle.

After a solid year of practice, I’m finally getting the hang of knitting. I’m still only doing the basic stitches, but I need to get a little more confident and try some trickier stitches.

IMG_7930

Since I was in the hat crocheting mood, and the cold weather wasn’t letting up. I made myself a crocheted khaki/grey beanie. Agnes swiped it immediately, and claimed it as hers. This one fit her too. I just might have to crochet a couple more of these.

IMG_7931

I started to run out of Daffodil yarn for the temperature blanket, and our store didn’t have any. Time to place an order, and get a new book while I’m at it.

IMG_7967

And here we go, January 2017 all complete. Time to start on February. This temperature blanket has me looking forward to Spring and Summer, so I can crochet in some pretty shades of reds and oranges.

IMG_7969

Car time… I spend about two hours in the car each day taking the kids to and from school. Pick-up, and drop-offs are still a mess here. I always have a book to read in the car, and a project to work on while I’m standing in line. It is too busy and peopley at the pick-up, and I really don’t like talking to anyone, so I crochet, and try to stay in my little bubble. I’ve cast on another scarf for next year’s teacher gifts. This yarn is a pink/coral/melon color called Flamingo. It is bright enough, but not too crazy.

I will finish this blanket. I will finish this blanket. I don’t even remember when I started it, I’ve been working on it for so long. Since this one is for Agnes, we decided to call it the “Agnes Blanket”. It is bright, colorful, full of different blocks, squares, and it is very unique just like Agnes. One night while I was crocheting a grannysquare, Thade came in to ask what I was working on. When I told him I was making a blanket for Agnes, he asked why haven’t I made him a blanket in a long time… Guess I know what my next project is going to be, but first I must finish this blanket.

Warm for Winter

The weather is warm today, but snow and ice is on the way for the weekend. I’m keeping busy knitting and crocheting some winter knits.

I’ve been knitting this scarf for a bit. I finished it just in time. I love the yellow and grey colors together.

I made myself a little cap to keep the chill away. That melon shade of yarn is one of my very favorites.

Lastly I crocheted a messy-bun hat for Agnes. It turned out super cute, and it was quick to crochet.

March: Knitting and Crochet Review

I am behind on so many posts right now. I’m also behind on laundry, gardening, housework in general, and probably more things that I have forgotten about. Oh well, I’ll get to them eventually.

March was a crazy month, the weather was wonky, and we were pretty much sick for the entire month. I spent lots of time on the couch, and when my head was clear, I had a crochet project in my hand.

So I’m still learning how to knit… I STILL can’t purl.

My mom got me some fun, super chunky, bubblegum pink yarn for me for my birthday. I thought it would make a perfect pillow for Agnes.

IMG_6242

I was making some pretty good progress, then I dropped a stitch and the whole thing came apart. I think I’ll revisit this project again. I still think the yarn would make an awfully cute pillow.

IMG_6219

Thade put in a request for another blanket. He just said stripes, and some of the colors of his youtube channel.

IMG_6223

This cozy blanket came together quickly. I love crocheting with bright colors.

IMG_6267

Thade liked the new blanket too.

I spend a ton of time in the car… So I always try to have a bag of little projects with me.

I am making a bunch of scarves in various colors. I’ll have them on hand for quick gifts, or teachers gifts for next school year.

IMG_6317

I also started another “scrappy blanket” with all of the leftover yarn that I have on hand. I love making this blanket, but it takes a little time to collect all of the yarn. I use a tiny H hook, so it is extra warm.

I love crocheting in the car on rainy days.

Crafting Review: January

I’ve been crocheting and getting a little bit better at knitting. I miss having my big projects to crochet, but I have lots of little odds and ends going on.

IMG_5998

Agnes has been requesting lots of crocheted accessories.

IMG_6012

I think I made her three or four of these little earwarmers.

IMG_6027

I also had a request for a crocheted Garnet scarf.

IMG_6040

The yard that I used was very, very thin, so it took me a little bit of time to complete the project.

IMG_6065

It turned out beautifully, and they loved the finished project.

IMG_6042

One extra cold day, I worked on some different off-center grannysquares.

IMG_6071

I also started a blanket for Thade. I hope he likes it.

IMG_6017

I’ve been kintting this scarf for over a month.

IMG_6068

It is going to be a gift for my brother. I just hope I get it done in time.

IMG_6087

IMG_6078

I actually finished knitting a headband/earwarmer for myself. It took me a bit, but I think it turned out pretty good. I still need to figure out that purl stitch though. Knit, I’m o.k. at, but the purl stitch has me stumped.

Handmade Christmas Gifts 2015

IMG_5911

Throughout 2015 I crocheted many handmade gifts for friends, teachers, and family too. I had set a goal last year to crochet a blanket for each and every family member. That meant eight blankets needed to be made. I am happy to report that I made my goal, and I think my family appreciated the gifts too.

IMG_5913

IMG_5903

I think I made at least twenty scarves for the kids teachers and friends of the family too.

IMG_5594

I also crocheted wreaths for Agnes and Dylan to pass out for gift bags at Christmas. I think I crocheted forty-five of them for the kiddos.

IMG_5871

Here are some photos of all of the handmade blankets that I gifted this year.

IMG_4570

I made this colorful granny-square blanket for my Mother in law. She was the one who taught me how to make a granny-square a few years ago.

IMG_4927

I made this African flower blanket for my Mother. She said that her grandmother made a blanket just like this one many years ago. I think that is pretty cool.

IMG_5136

I made this super cozy grey blanket for my soon to be Brother in law.

IMG_5276

I called this one my granny-burst blanket for my Brother’s girlfriend. This blanket had little granny-circles encompassed in squares, and the white yarn made the bright colors pop.

IMG_5290

I made this lovely hexagon blanket for my Sister (in law) . I loved the look of this blanket, it looks like stained glass.

IMG_5565

I made this bright-striped blanket for my Brother. This blanket came together quickly. This one was the biggest blanket that I made, but it only took me about a month and a half to complete it.

IMG_5762

Just in time for Christmas, I finished up these beautiful granny-square blankets for my darling nieces. How I love those darling little ones.

It was really fun crafting and crocheting through the year. I am so happy that I met my goal for handmade gifts. This year I’m teaching myself how to knit. Maybe I’ll make knitted gifts for everyone next Christmas.
