April’s Clutter Count

I got back into the habit of de-cluttering in April, and most of my focus was in the boys room. I rearranged some furniture, got rid of a lot of stuff, and then tackled the closet.

I really loved the way that the closet turned out. Before it was over stuffed with items that I thought I needed to save… I took a hard look at all of it, and decided to just keep six bins that I could stack and  keep on the top of the shelf. I cleaned out three more bins for a yard sale. I also ended up taking out two more contractor bags from the boys room.

The boys room is my primary focus now. I am spending about an hour a week devoted to cleaning, and organizing their room before Summer arrives. I really hope to have the task completed before the end of the school year. I’ll then deep clean and de-clutter again in late August, I’m just accepting that it is going to be a mess with all of the kiddos home…

I ended up cleaning out another 343 items out of the house. Not too bad.

Clutter Busting

This month I haven’t been de-cluttering at all, but in February we rocked it!

I worked a little more on the house, and James tackled the garage.

All in all we removed 481 more pieces of clutter from the house!

I’m so happy it is out of here.

500 Items

I read a great article about tossing out 50 items. Fifty was the magic number that was supposed to get your mind ready to toss away a lot of unnecessary clutter. I have to say, it really worked. It worked so well for me that I decided to set a goal of getting rid of 500 items of clutter  in January.

I wanted to clean out all of the hidden clutter in the house. I started with my desk, then moved onto the kitchen drawers. I then worked on the upstairs storage closet, and the downstairs buffet. James even cleaned out his closet, and the boys were happy when I worked on their room too.

At first it was a little worrisome, but by the middle of the month I hit my stride. I worked while the kids were both at school, and Agnes was napping. I was surprised by how much clutter I could rid the house of in just an hour.

I’m really happy with the results too. My craft supplies are organized, my kitchen is cleaner. The closets look great, and it will be a snap to paint. I want to keep going through February though, I’ve finally found a clutter-busting system that is working for me.

So you might be wondering if I hit my goal… I’m happy to report that I did, 507 items of straight-up clutter are gone for good. It feels great too!

The Latest Goal: 500 Items

I’ve been feeling really good decluttering this month. I tackled the 50 items task with ease, and I have worked on 50 more a week. The clutter is really starting to disappear, and the house is looking so much better.

This last weekend James was even ready to tackle getting rid of 50 things, and we finally got his closet organized.

I’ve decided to re-challenge myself and remove at least 500 pieces of clutter from the house in January. I’m half-way through the month, and I’m over half-way there. I’m now seeking out hidden clutter in the upstairs closet, and the kitchen too. I really want to achieve this latest goal, and get my house in order.
