How Have the Gas Prices Changed You? Nico is Grumpy

I really need to stop watching the news, and reading all of the articles about the rising gas prices. The most recent gas price increase really has me worried. I’m wondering if you have had to cut back expenses to help with the rise in fuel costs?

In a distant past when Nico was just nineteen I can remember filling up my car for a mere $10.00! Last week I purchased a half of a tank of gas and paid $27.50, so if I was completely empty it would have taken  $55.00 to fill my car : (  I drive a gas friendly Impala, this is just crazy.

The gas prices have really changed the way that I think about my driving. I look at the cost of the trip first, and then justify the trip. I don’t like doing that, I miss the days where I could just go and have fun, and not worry.

A trip to the store out of town used to be no big deal, I would make the 20 minute drive, and come back home, but when gas hit $3.15, that trip became a big deal. I can’t justify spending almost $7.00 in gas for one trip to the grocery store.

All of my family lives out of state too, anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half away, that makes those little trips about $30.00 + in gas. Which makes me mad, I used to take off and visit my Mom for the day, and now those trips have become very limited, sorry Mom, and sorry to my Brother too…

Also taking the baby out for an evening drive to soothe those teething troubles hasn’t happened. Yes Dylan has teething pain, and he gets pretty grumpy, but that nice long drive has become a thing of the past, it just takes too much gas.

I don’t want to be completely negative about the situation, but the rising prices seem to have an effect on everything. I’m dreading the trip to the grocery store today, I know I’ll see higher prices on the basics now that Diesel has hit $3.76.

So feel free to gripe, and let out all of those high gas price angers… Let me know how you are doing with all of the increases.

  1. Thanks Nana! That is quite a change in the gas price. I try to do the same with my errands too, I’ve also started limiting my trips out. Mondays are usually groceries and errands, and then Soccer on Tuesday, and then thats it I’m in for the week. We miss you too 🙂

  2. When I started driving 16 years ago we could fill up my tank for $.99 per gallon……SWEET!

Now at $3.19 + and it’s still soaring I just don’t know. Not to be negative but we’re about to see prices soar on EVERYTHING! Hard times are comin. REAL HARD and soon.

We drive a 2006 Durango and a 1999 Chevy pick-up. They take the gas, thank goodness they are both paid for though, because filling them up a month is likea care payment in itself.

    Blessings!!!

  3. I know, it’s crazy. We drive a Pontiac Montana, which isn’t bad on gas, but still…I keep a list of all the places we need to go and places we need to take Gramma and then just plan the best route and get it all done in one day if we can, to save gas. Thank goodness my husband has a company vehicle for all of his trips during his workday.

  4. We just combine trips and plan as carefully as we can. It’s taken a big hit on our budget. I use coupons and sale prices for everything, gotta save for the gas. We’re lucky that the kids school is only about a mile away. I can’t imagine how minimum wage workers are surviving!

  5. Thanks Susan! We have errand day too, and then we are finished for the week. I miss those days when you could just jump in the car and take off and not worry about how much the trip was going to cost. That is cool that your hubby has a company vehicle to help out with the costs.

  6. Thanks Mimi! That is great that the coupons are helping with the rising fuel costs. That is great that the kids school is so close, I bet that helps a lot too.

  7. Thanks Marva! The price increases have me pretty worried, I try not to complain, but I’m a worrier. That is great that both of your vehicles are paid for, I bet that really helps out 🙂
