Today I had planned on shopping around, and it was just too darn cold to do so. I would have saved a few extra dollars had I run to Walgreens and Dollar General, but with 20 degree weather and 2 kids, I could make only one stop at Wal-Mart. I also noticed another round of price increases, once again not too cool. Here are 4 from my shopping list:
- One Dozen Eggs $1.70 (this one is actually down $.17)
- Gerber Puffs $1.92 (up $.24 since the new year)
- Huggies Diapers 40 ct $10.67 (up $1.13 since last week, ouch)
- White Flour $1.58 (up $.20 since the new year)
I know a few of the price increases are small, but the Diaper price increase I noticed that one immediately. I did have $7.00 in coupons today, but those little price increases really hurt my grocery budget.
How are the prices in your area? Are you seeing price increases on your Family Favorites?
We are seeing price increases here too. I am using comp ads at Wal-Mart though and it definately helps.
I depise running out of things, so I try to stockpile when I catch sales AND have coupons.
I used the Walgreen’s paper and got eggs at Wal-Mart for $1.50 for a large dozen and the Walgreen’s paper and got the Huggie’s diapers for 2/$16 and then I had $1 coupons off for each one. I thought that was a pretty good deal.
Have a great night and stay warm!
Hi Nicole……yes, I too have noticed a price increased on lots of items…..I read an article not too long ago and it was talking about how food prices have really gone up and are probably here to stay. I just try to match coupons with sale items and do the best I can! Even though some of the increases are small, it sure can add up! It would be interesting to compare prices from around the country…..we seem to do ok with milk prices here compared to some of the things I had read…..One gallon at Winco (Anderson Dairy) is $2.98….I also shop the Orowheat/Entemans outlet for bread and english muffins…..I went there today and for $18.15 I got 6 loaves of whole grain bread, 8 (8 count) thomas english muffins, a bag of rolls….then I received 2 free items (1 with my punch card….got donuts as a treat) and another english muffin for spending over $6.00. this will last us 6 to 8 weeks. My dh and girls are big cereal eaters and that really can get expensive….thank goodness for coupons! Take care and stay warm…..:) Ellie
Thanks Marva! Those are great deals that you found 🙂 That is great that you stockpile too, that is a habit that I need to start. I’m pretty bad of running out of necessary items around my house.
Thanks Ellie! The Orowheat/Entemans outlet sounds yummy 🙂 Great deals too. Before we moved we had a Dolly Madison/Hostess outlet that had tasty deals too.
That is a great price on Milk too. Every once in a while Walgreens will have Hiland milk for $2.99, at Wal-Mart it is usually $3.40 for their brand, and $4.07 + for Hiland.
It is getting pretty expensive.
Girls, you’ve got it good for milk. Cheap here is $3.99 for generic Piggly Wiggly milk. Wal-Mart brand is just under $5.00 and the name brand Barber’s (at wal-Mart) is $5.48. Can you say ouch?!!
Those are some low prices compared to here. I posted some scary sky high prices from our area yesterday on my blog, and I’d be thrilled if I could find eggs at under 2.99 a dozen here!
Thanks Marva! That is very pricey for Milk, and you have two little ones that are both Milk drinkers. I can’t believe how high the prices are getting on the basic grocery items.
Thanks Mimi! I read the prices on your blog too, and I was scared to see cereal at $5.69, and the eggs, oh my goodness. It used to be a bowl of cereal or scrambled eggs was an inexpensive breakfast, but not any more 😉
