Oh the Price of Fabric Softener

Sadly my Supercenter no longer carries my favorite (and nicely priced at $2.98) hypo-allergenic fabric softener. Now I’m left with $4.42-$7.00 priced fabric softener. I’m about to give up on it all and start looking for a recipe for Homemade Fabric Softener.

The funny thing though, as I was mulling over the price of this one for that, and that one for this, I noticed a lady doing the exact same thing in Laundry Detergents.

I commented: “Wow, my favorite brand is gone, and now I have no idea which one is the best deal.”

Nice lady: “I know, I swear I picked up my favorite detergent a month ago for $2.00 less”

Me:”I know, these prices are getting out of hand.”

Nice lady:” I’m just so sick of it, I now have to take out a loan to wash my clothes!”

We both smiled and giggled, and headed off to finish the shopping, I was a little happy to hear someone else grumpy about the crazy prices.

What about you, with the price increases everywhere, have you noticed any of your favorite products no longer being carried on the shelves?

  1. Nico, have you tried vinegar as a fabric softener? I use it when I run out, it doesn’t leave a vinegar smell to your clothes at all…just doesn’t smell as pretty as real fabric softener, that’s for sure 😀 .

  2. I think we’ve used baking soda for a softner, I’ll check with my husband. I took a chance on Purex at the dollar store and have been happy. I like Walmart’s brand with the sensitive too- I’ll have to check if it’s still there. I think I bought a biodegradable one there for small amount also. This may be off the subject, but a notice in price is the coffee!! I buy it for my husband and it is out of control! Over 8.00 for a can- yikes!!! ok- my rant for the day, smile…

  3. Thanks Susan! Thanks for the great tip, I’ll have to give the Vinegar a try. I keep it on hand for cleaning out my coffee maker 😉 I have been noticing a lot of the products that I buy are no longer on the shelves, but the store always seems to stock the most expensive brands.

  4. Thanks Heather! Great tip too. I was so bummed that my favorite fabric softener is no longer sold at our Supercenter, it was such a great price… Coffee prices on the rise, oh no!!! You know I need my coffee 😉 Every shopping trip I seem to worry more and more about just how high the prices will be this week, it is getting crazy!

  5. That’s too bad that you have to worry. I know money isn’t stretching as far as it was a month ago. I really have to scrutnize(sp.wrong) my purchases. It’s been mainly basics for now. isn’t a shame when Ranch dressing is a splurge??????????- hugs, heather

  6. Thanks Heather! I’m buying basics too, but still stressing out. How I wish we had an Aldi, or a decent discount grocer locally, it would really help out with our grocery dollars 🙂 I agree my latest splurge was on Pop Tarts I spotted a large box of Chocolate Chip Pop Tarts for just $2.25! I had to pick them up, it was too good to pass up, and they make really easy breakfasts on those busy pre-school mornings 😉
