Pennies, Pennies Everywhere

This week there has been a lot going on in our little town. The Guinness Book of World Records has been visiting, and overseeing a 40 mile chain of pennies. The town has been collecting the pennies for over a year in an attempt set a new World Record for the fastest Penny Chain built, and the longest Penny Chain. The pennies are also being used to fund much needed additions to a local park. If enough funds are raised we will have new playgrounds, beach volleyball pits, and a miniature golf course.

Thade and I visited the site yesterday, and it was so cool to see all of the pennies. There was quite a turn out too, even though the temps were pretty high. There was also a community dinner and a fireworks display. I hope that the Penny Chain makes it in to the Record books, and I’m looking forward to the mini golf!

  1. Thanks Susan! I hope that we make it in the Guinness book, the penny drive has really helped rally the community together. The park improvements are going to be great too.

  2. Nicole,
the drive sounds neat! Let us know if your town gets into the records! I read your other entries too, but have to call it a night soon so I’ll comment on all. Yeah= for the garden! The flowers looks so pretty!
Your cupcakes were a great idea, I loved reading about your adventures with “made from scratch” notions. Please continue to post about this when you make things. I have been leaning towards fading the boxed stuff out of my pantry also. ok, enough rambling! Have a great night, heather

  3. Thanks Heather! I hope that we make it in the record books too, and the pennies will help out a lot with the park improvements.

The weather has been cooler and the rain has helped out the garden greatly. I just hope those little bugs don’t eat all of my veggies.

The cupcakes were so fun to make, and really easy too. The icing was a bit costly (butter), but a tasty treat for a special occasion. I’ll be working on a few more “made from scratch” posts for you 🙂

Big hugs and I hope that you have a great weekend!

  4. Thanks Mimi! The penny drive has been lots of fun, and I can’t wait to see the improvements for the park. The mini-golf will be fun for all 🙂
