I was enjoying my cup of coffee yesterday morning, and I could hear the strangest screeching sound. It sounded like an exotic bird trapped in my backyard. I walked into the kitchen and I could hear the noise getting louder and louder, and then I realized it was my Coffee Maker (Hamilton Beach Brew Station) boiling itself dry. Why coffee maker? Why! This is the one appliance that I need to function properly everyday!
I thoroughly cleaned out the machine, and this morning crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. I plugged it in, pressed the magic red button, and again the same awful sound screeched from my beloved coffee maker : ( Luckily I held on to my little 4 cup Mr.Coffee maker, so it should get me by a little while.
My Brew Station is only two years old, but we have some awfully hard water in our area. I’m pretty sure it was the hard water that added to my Brew Station’s demise, not me running major amounts of coffee through it daily 😉 Just in case I’m shopping for a new coffee maker this weekend, does anyone have a favorite brand of coffee maker that you use at home?
Sorry to hear about your coffee maker……what a bummer 🙁 I don’t own a coffee maker (never have) so I don’t have any suggestions…..just a wish for you to find something great 🙂 Good luck! Ellie
Thanks Ellie! I’ve been really happy with my Brew Station, has an automatic shut-off, so I never have to worry about turning it off. I really think that it is the hard water, so I might try cleaning it another time or two, and hope for the best. Thanks for the sweet wishes 🙂
I like to use a french press or my Melitta cone drip, for the Melitta you just pour in hot water through the filter, it drips coffee, no plugs or power needed. Then I put it into a thermos carafe. The french press is great for just setting on the table and letting it do it’s thing while you cook. Both cost from 10 to 15 bucks.
I hope you survive with your 4 cup coffee maker!
Thanks Mimi! Both of those sound great, and I love the fact that no power is needed 🙂 Thanks for the great suggestions 🙂
Hi Nico! I am sorry to here about the demise of the coffe maker!
We have a Mr. Coffee machine. It is programmable and also has automatic shut off after 2 hours. Our sis white but the link I am giving it is black. We bought ours in store the day after Thanksgiving 2006. It was one of Wal-Mart’s “secret itmes” for Black Friday. It was $12. WEll worth the $25 it is listed for though.
