In The Garden: May

The weather warmed up a little too quickly, and everything was in full bloom early this May.

The Iris that I transplanted into the North Garden bloomed with huge white blossoms.

I guess they like their new home.

I can’t remember if this is the third or fourth year for the Hosta in the North Garden. This year they came up early, and they are huge.

Please ignore the endless weeds that I haven’t gotten to, and just focus on those giant Hosta leaves.

The Red Lily has sprouted, and we are just waiting for it to bloom.

I wish I could remember the names of these fragrant little blooms in the planter. They smell fantastic, and the tiny birds are just going crazy for them.

I’m really hoping these purple blossoms bring the butterflies and hummingbirds our way.

Out front we have a little garden around the flag pole. Agnes has been picking out lots of Petunias to add. It is a bit of an eclectic mix, but that pretty much sums up my family.

I’m waiting, waiting, waiting on this little Daisy to bloom. This is my very favorite flower, and it looks like we are only going to get one or two of them this Spring.

The baby Chickadees finally made their fluffy appearance in the garden. Cupcake and Biscuit had two little chicks, but two more have arrived with another momma. They are adorable, but they are eating through the two bird feeders every other day.

We’ve been keeping track of our birdy visitors, and we have had thirteen different types of birds that have visited the feeders. This little guy is Red, he is our darling House Finch, and he has the prettiest song. We’ve added a hummingbird feeder to the garden, but so far no visitors. The kids had fun making hummingbird nectar though.

June is here, and we have the pool up, and I really need to tend to the gardens a bit better. It seems to be either too hot, or too rainy to get out there and get too much done.

May’s Crafts

I didn’t seem to be crafting too much during the month of May. I hope to remedy that in June.

I got a big pile of yarn and a few books for Mother’s Day. My family knows me too well.

My knitting basket holds a project based on one of my favorite books. Yes, I am that big of a nerd.

I’m still working on Dylan’s blanket that I hoped to finish last Summer.

I really hope to have it finished soon. Every night Dylan asks me when it’s going to be done, and I always say twenty-thirty rows give-or-take.

Agnes’ blanket is still a very much work in progress. Every time I start working on this little project, Jinx runs up, and naps right away. I try and move her, and she just plops right back down on it. This one still has a good sixty rows to go, if Jinx will let me.

James got me a little surprise. I have wanted a sewing basket for all of my hand-sewing notions scattered around my bedside table. I love this basket, and I’ve finally got a home for all of those odds and ends.

Now that June is here, and school is out, I hope to craft a bit more. I have several works in progress that I really need to finish up.

And Just Like That, It’s June

May absolutely flew by, and the kids were out of school way too early this year. It seems like the weather started to warm up way too quickly, and poof it is now June.

Did I mention just how hot it is?!? Right now it is 95 F, but feels like 105 F, and it is seriously the first day of June!!! This Summer is going to be miserable…We are currently filling the pool, and I am currently hiding out from the Sun.

The kids have been out of school for almost three weeks already. They are bored, fighting, hungry, fighting, bored, and fighting constantly… Seriously, and 105 F weather, it is going to be a looooooong Summer.

I wish I had exciting plans for the month of June, but it is mostly just endless housework, and cooking, and breaking up fights between one brooding teen, one grumpy tween, and dealing with one screaming angry girl who acts like a tween even though she’s eight… And it feels like 105 F.

Ugh…
