The Waiting Game

Mornings have become a bit of a rush. No matter how early I get up, or what time we manage to get out of the door. the morning drop-off is a bit time consuming. On a good day I can make it to both schools in twenty minutes, most days it is twenty five. Today it was ridiculous, and it took thirty five minutes.

The afternoon wait is a bit tougher. We are having to leave earlier and earlier to get a decent spot in line. That means an extra long wait for the little gal and me.

You can see her little grumpy face in the rear-view mirror. Some days are better than others. She brings along a toy or two for the wait, and I have a big bin of books in the car for her too. Some days she naps, most days she just gripes at me for about forty minutes.

I bring along a few magazines, or a book to read. It can be a little warm though. I can’t wait for Autumn weather to arrive.

The long wait gives me time to clean out my messy bag.

I hope that in a month we will have all adjusted to the new routine, and the long wait. Right now, I’m ready for a long weekend.

Accent Wall

Our house is a funny-odd-old house. The rooms don’t seem to have enough walls. There are a lot of wide open spaces to paint, and little odd spaces to paint.

In the front of the house is the foyer. It is a room, but it isn’t a room. It is home to the staircase, and it is open on two sides. It lives right next to the living room. Which is also open on two sides. Between the foyer and the living room is the scary holiday closet. I’m not scared of holidays, the closet is just a mess and it happens to hold all of the holiday decorations. On either side of the scary closet are little walls. They don’t completely enclose the room, they are more like a half wall.

This month we grew tired of the colors in the room, so we decided to change the accent wall color.

In the foyer and the living room the accent wall was painted a deep blue-green color. I loved the color, but we just needed something new.

I got out my color-decks and poured over paint chip after paint chip. I finally spotted a color that I thought would look good in the room. It is by Sherwin Williams and it is called Alaea. It is a unique color in some light it looks almost red, in other light it looks purple, and I love it. James even likes it too.

It gave the room just a little pop of color. The painting project didn’t take too long either.

Autumn Reading

James surprised me with a few new books for my half-birthday. Just in time too, I finished a book yesterday.

I started a new one, it’s the latest Sookie Stackhouse novel. After that I’ll be reading Game of Thrones. We’ll see if I get the first four read through this Autumn.

Quilting Along

Right now I have two quilts pieced out and in the works. I’m working on a quilt for James first. I got a little bit of time to start the finishing project this week, and late Friday I noticed my mistake…

I’ve sewn one little finishing square too many… So I spent Friday night hanging out with the seam ripper, and watching Portlandia.

Hopefully I’ll get back to work on the quilt next week.

Hello Weekend

Thank goodness we made it through the first week of school. The kids did great, and I even woke up on time. It was a long week though, even if it was only four days.

Thade is getting used to his new school, and Dylan absolutely loves kindergarten. All this morning Dylan has been asking when Monday will be here. He can’t wait to go back.

We also have the morning routine down,  and afternoon pick-up too. I was the most concerned with the afternoon pick-up at two different schools, but so far it is working out well. Agnes has been really good about the long wait. She is always ready to go and get her brothers.

The kids have been coming home starving… I’ve been in the kitchen around the clock, just trying to keep the little guys tummies full. Dylan was always my pickiest eater, but after a long day at school, he will eat anything that is on his plate.

The days have been quiet, and Agnes is starting to cheer up a bit. By Friday she wasn’t too upset when we had to take the boys to school. She has been sleeping better too, thanks to those early mornings.
