Gardening So Far

Last week I was working on cleaning out the Hosta beds, and getting the rest of the leaves out of the North garden. It looks like it is going to rain all this week, so I probably won’t be getting anything done outside… I do have a few plants that are growing though.

Thade planted the Snow Peas seeds this year. We have several plants growing. We harvested some pods that went to seed last year, and planted them this season. They took off, and are doing well.

080

Last year’s Raspberry start is doing well too. I just might get a few raspberries this time around.

082

Last year’s Strawberry plants loved the mild Winter, and have taken off this Spring. The plants are growing tall.

I’ve only found a few berries, and the robins have been getting to them first. Oh well, I hope the birds enjoy the sweet treat. They had better help out with the mosquitoes and grasshoppers since I feed them fresh strawberries.

At The Greenhouse

One of my favorite Springtime childhood memories was visiting the greenhouse in my hometown with my Nana. I loved to wander up and down the aisles browsing all of the beautiful blooms. The greenhouse that we would visit also had a beautiful fountain. My Nana’s house also had a beautiful fountain filled with Hen & Chicks plants, it was lovely in the Summertime. I’ve wanted to take the kids to a greenhouse for a long time, so this week I took the little ones.

We visited the Redbud Farms and Nurseries. It is just a little way out of town, by sprawling farmland, and it is lovely.

Dylan thought it was stinky, but Agnes and I loved it!

I love greenhouses! I was happy to make some childhood memories with the little ones too. I hope to visit there again, and get my shade garden ready for the Spring and Summer.

Windy Errands

The weather has been great this week, so we are trying to walk as many errands as we can. It was a little windy, but the kids didn’t mind.

We stopped off at the Downtown Pavilion to take a little rest and get some pictures too.

The roses are in bloom all over town, and they are lovely.

On our walks we always walk by “the castle”, it is a beautiful Victorian home. It is also home to an amazing garden.

Their Calla Lilies are absolutely beautiful.

Books and Books

Thade has almost reached his goal of reading one hundred books for the Blooming Reader program at school. As of yesterday he was at number ninety one. I am really proud of my big kid for setting a goal and getting it done too.

He had me gather up all the books he hadn’t read yet for him to read last weekend.

0017

Dylan also wanted a bin of books too. He is anxious to start reading. We will be working on it this Summer.

0025

Of course Agnes needed a little bin too. Her bin  is filled with board books. She loves to flip through them, and then say “the end”.

After the weekend…

Thade made a pretty good dent in his bin. I’m sure he will meet his goal this weekend.
