Menu Planning Helpers

It isn’t officially a “not going out in June month”, but I am really trying to cut back on grabbing take-out. I was really lax on the home-cooking in April and still awfully bad in May, now that it is June it is time to get back on track. The best helper that I have to keep on track is my Monthly Menu, and I thought I would share a few tips that help me plan for a month of meals.

  • First grab a calendar, and split the days into thirds. I have a spot on my calendar for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
  • Make a list of your family’s favorite meals, and ask them if there are any new meals that they would like to try
  • Go to your pantry, freezer, and fridge, and make a list of what supplies you already have on hand. You might surprise yourself with what you find, take a little time to plan a few meals around what is already in your kitchen.
  • Grab a pencil and start planning your meals. I like to start with dinner first, and plan for leftovers. I write  the dinner leftovers down for quick lunches during the week.
  • This is the first month that I am also planning a month of  breakfasts… I’m stocking the freezer with waffles, pancakes, and muffins. I’ll add in Bacon, Sausage, and Eggs to the menu for my hubby throughout the month.
  • Plan for a little flexibility in your menu (hence the pencil)… Keep an eye out for fresh produce to add to your meals, and if you have to skip a home-cooked meal, but you have the supplies on hand, scratch out one dinner and replace it with what you already have on hand.
  • Have fun planning!

I hope that these tips help a bit, and I hope to stay on track for the month of June.

To The Doctor

Today I’m off to the Doctor for another check-up, and I hope hope hope that we will get the ultrasound scheduled for later this month. I’m also going to see about who will be performing the c-section. The Doctor that I wanted to do the surgery has left the hospital, so that leaves the Doctor that I’m not really wanting to perform the surgery. I wish that I could have the last Doctor that did my c-section with Dylan, cause he was awesome. I’m going to see what my options are, and figure out where to go from there.

Wish me luck, and keep sending those “pink” thoughts my way.

Last Weekend

002

Last weekend we went to the Good Ol’ Days…

005

We had a great time at the festival. We took a Trolley Ride, and it was really fun. We walked around downtown for a little bit, and stopped off to watch the Dock Dogs show.

008

The boy’s enjoyed a tasty Cherry Sno-Cone, and James treated us all to a yummy lunch too. I had roasted corn, too good.

0081

I had a super yummy Giant Lemonade!

003

I also got really sunburned too…

Sunburn aside the Good Ol’ Days were really fun. We all agreed that the Trolley Ride was the best part though. While riding the Trolley we learned a lot about our town, and we got to hear all about the old homes and structures, many were from the 1890’s. The kids enjoyed the ride too, and it was nice and breezy on the Trolley.

We also liked that they waved the entrance fee into the Good Ol’ Days this year, I hope that this tradition will carry into the next year too. It looks like there was a great turn-out too.

Guess Who Got a Bath Today?

The Kitties!!!

013

Yep, today I decided that our shedding kitties needed a bath. They are so mad at me right now, but Dylan thinks that the kitties are hilarious!

0141

I’m sure that they will dry out eventually…

What’s Going On This Weekend

040

The Good Ol Days are here again!

This weekend the entire downtown shuts down for a fun Summer festival! There are crafts, carnival rides, and plenty of tasty food. Last night was the Good Ol Days parade, and we couldn’t wait to go.

We met up with a few of our best friends, and we all watched the parade together.

There were so many great floats this year, and candy for the kiddos too.

060

There were also tractors, lots and lots of tractors. I think I got at least 20 tractor pictures.

The parade was a lot of fun this year, and after the parade was even more activities. There was a bed race through downtown, that was hilarious, and a dachshund competition that James got to help judge. We all had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs too.

Today we will be heading out to the festival to take a Trolley Ride, and enjoy some yummy treats too. I hope that everyone has a great weekend, and I wish you were all here!
