Breakfast for Dinner

I thought it would be nice to mix up the menu a bit, and on Friday the 13th I decided to make breakfast for dinner. Now it sounds pretty simple, but somehow I managed to dirty up just about every pot and pan in the house making all of the options, but the boys loved it.

I didn’t get any pictures, because the meal was gone in a flash! Dylan was thrilled to have Bacon for dinner, and Thade couldn’t resist the pancakes. James loved the Sausage and Eggs, and my favorite was the Homemade Hash-browns.

It was a fun change-up to a routine dinner-time, and I think Breakfast for dinner will find its way onto the Monthly Dinner Menu again.

What the Boy’s Are Saying

I thought I’d interview my boy’s on what they think about the “Not Going Out In March Challenge” so far, and if they think I’ve gone completely bonkers in March.

First up is Thade!

Mom: Thade, what have you liked about the challenge so far?

Thade: Gives a big thumbs up. I’ve been really good about not eating any take-out.

Mom: What have you missed about take-out?

Thade: I don’t know, I didn’t miss anything. Oh wait I miss, Subway, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Pizza Hut, Gringo’s, and Dairy Queen, and Sonic.

Mom: Which meal or meals have been your favorite this month?

Thade: I liked everyone of them.

Mom: What challenge should we attempt next?

Thade: Eating take-out all month!

You gotta love five year old kiddos… Thade has been a really good sport this month.

Next up is my sweet hubby James

Well I was going to have a James interview for you, but he did an awesome post all about the March Challenge over at his blog. It is definitely worth a read, and James probably deserves a hug or two for being such a good sport this month.

Now for the littlest guy… Dylan

Dylan has probably been the most vocal about the challenge. He runs to his high chair, ready to see just what Mommy has in store for dinner. He always has an mmmm yummy reply, and so far he hasn’t said the words Happy Meal or Taco Bell. Dylan has been a trooper too. I think one of his favorite meals was Breakfast for Dinner, and this week I’ll be making Broccoli Cheese Casserole, his very favorite.

Just Mom and Thade

Sunday afternoon Thade and I got to make a special trip out to do some shopping. Dylan’s birthday is coming up soon, and Thade and I are in charge of the shopping this year. James stayed home to watch Dylan while we spent the afternoon out.

Thade had so much fun, he was all smiles as we made our way to the car. Once he was in his car seat, he just smiled and said “its just Mom and Thade”. It is very rare that it is just the two of us anymore. Dylan never wants to be left out, and all to often I forget just how much Thade really enjoys a special trip all by himself with Mom or Dad.

Thade was full of great gift ideas too, and we settled on finding four presents for Dylan. I told him that he was in charge of the shopping, and he was thrilled to accomplish the task. He happily walked up and down the toy aisles several times searching for the perfect present. When we were all finished, we headed to the check-out where I let Thade pick out a treat for himself. He smiled so proudly and chose a package of Air Heads.

We made our way back to the car with presents in tow, and Thade couldn’t wait to get back home to show Dad just what we picked up, but we can’t show Dylan just yet.

It was a fun afternoon, and I was happy to have a little time to catch up with my big kid. Now I’ve just got to get all of those presents wrapped for the birthday boy.

Not Going Out in March Week 3 in Review

I have to admit this challenge is getting really tough… The restaurants are calling my name, and my laziness is starting to catch up with me. An easy meal picked up sounds so good right now… We are so close though, and my hubby is determined for us to make it. I am happily reporting that we have made it through week 3 of the “Not Going Out in March Challenge”, just barely.

James resisted take-out breakfast brought in by his co-workers, and I resisted picking up Happy Meals for an impromptu MOPS picnic. When we run errands Thade will name every place that we are going, and then he will add, “don’t forget we are not picking up take-out”. It cracks me up, but he is proud to be part of the challenge too.

I finally had to stop for gas on Saturday, so that was almost 3 full weeks on just 1/2 tank of gas. Had I been running out for extra trips through the drive-thru I would have wasted a lot of gas. James still hasn’t had to stop for gas either, and that really surprised me, I think he stops for a 1/2 tank of gas about twice a month.

The kitchen is still an ongoing mess, and I’ve been lazy with breakfast… Dry cereal anyone?!? I’ve used another container of Ajax dish liquid, so I’ve upgraded to the larger Palmolive bottle. Let’s hope that it lasts through the end of the month. Thanks to all of the extra dishes, I’ve been slacking in the laundry department. On Saturday I finally got all of the laundry from upstairs, and I had a whopping 6 loads to wash. There seems to be no shortage of housework that needs to be done around here.

Saturday the boys and I also ran to the store and I stocked up on enough groceries to finish up the end of the month. I might need to run out for Milk one more time before we see April, but that isn’t so bad. I still can’t find my beloved Easter Puffs, but that is another post entirely.

I’m happy that we have made it through Week #3, and I’m hoping that we can see Week #4 through.

Spring Time Tote

Yay for Spring! Time to dig out all of my super cute shoes from deep inside my closet, and get out the cute Springtime dresses too. To celebrate Spring I’ve made up a little tote to carry just the necessities. I wish I could sew a Springtime diaper bag that could carry it all.

Sending Happy Springtime Wishes to All!
