Walking the Recycling

My boys love to go for walks. If I even say the word “go” Dylan will run and grab his shoes and stand by the front door. Yesterday I thought it would be fun to walk to the Post Office, and drop off our recycling along the way. Just a few blocks away we found a place where you can drop off aluminum cans to benefit a local charity.

I loaded up the stroller with two bags of aluminum, and we started on our walk. We walked to the drop off, and the nicest lady hollered to us “Thank you for recycling with us”, Thade felt proud that he was doing something nice for the environment. We made our way to the Post Office, and we spotted a few more cans on the trip. I picked them up, and we would make one more stop to recycle them on the way home.

When we went back Terry (recycling lady) was outside so we introduced ourselves, and Thade handed her the found cans. He was proud of the extra cans that he found on the walk. I hope that this will become a weekly tradition for us, it is a great walk for Thade, and a great way to help the Planet (just a bit) too.

Pretend School Day

Both of the boy’s were up extra early today, so I declared that today would be a pretend School day. I told Thade that we would be going through our new Morning Routine, and we needed to be out the door by 8:00 a.m. (wink)

We have a pretty basic routine: both boys dressed, faces washed, teeth brushed, breakfast, backpack on, and out the door.

Thade wasn’t really buying the idea of a pretend School day though, he knows that School doesn’t start for nine more days… Oh well, practice makes perfect.

How do you help your kids get back in to the school routine?

Future Photographers

Thade loves his camera that Grandma gave him. A few days ago I caught him setting up shots of his favorite Super Heroes in the living room. Even Dylan enjoys carrying the camera and snapping shots here and there.

I see two Photographers in my future.

I Heart Spray Paint

So yesterday I got adventurous with Spray Paint, and I’m hooked. I’m now looking around the house for more items that need a punch of color. I’m pretty sure that by wintertime every wooden surface in my house is going to be painted.

If you look in the background there is a little brown chair. This is one of the chairs from the kitchen, and it could use a little something.

The kitchen chair got several coats of Hot Pink Watermelon Spray Paint, and looks so cute! I’m now thinking of painting the mis-matched kitchen set in bright pop art colors.

I have a small Wicker Chair on the front porch and every season I try to paint it a different color.

I have painted it Dark Blue, Wine, and most recently Aqua. With Fall approaching I thought it would be appropriate to paint it Orange.

The orange paint looks great, and I think the kitty looks adorable hanging out on it too. I moved the chair back to the front porch, and now I can’t wait to decorate for Halloween.

On to the last project. My mom gave me her antique Printer Press drawer, and I have never known what to do with it.

When we were kids the drawer hung in our den and was home to many miniatures. I think that with a little pink paint and maybe a little decoupage it would make an awesome jewelry holder.

Painting with the Spray Paint was so much fun, but my arm is a little sore today. I think it took me about 2 hours to finish all three pieces, but I love how they turned out. Watch out furniture, Nico has a new hobby.

Nico + Spray Paint

Nico+ Spray Paint = Watch Out Furniture!

Or maybe it should be Nico+ Spray Paint= One Brave Hubby! I visited my hubby at work today, and I came home with One Can of Primer, One Drop Cloth, and 2 cans of Pink and Orange Spray Paint. I was planning on painting one chair pink, one orange, and I have a printer’s drawer that will be painted pink too. We’ll see how this project goes, wish me luck, and I hope I can resist the urge to paint the fence bright pink!
