Rainy Tuesday

April 8th, 2008

The weather is cold and rainy today, but that is fine with me :) I need a day to spend at home catching up on some cleaning tasks! Here is the plan for today:

  • Bake 12 Banana Muffins and 12 Strawberry Banana Muffins
  • Laundry Catch-Up Day!!!
  • Dishes Catch-Up Day!!!
  • Change the Boy’s Bedding
  • Start Cleaning Hubby’s Office
  • Make Turkey Stock
  • Plan this weeks lunches
  • Cross Stitch my little project, if the boy’s will let me ;)

I must admit this rainy weather is making me a little sleepy, it would be a great day to curl up on the couch and take a nice long nap. I had better do all those chores instead ;)

The 5 Minute Pick-Up

April 3rd, 2008

As my daily clean-up routine is ever evolving, I’m always looking for a faster way to keep the house nice and tidy. Last week I did a deep clean of the downstairs for Dylan’s party and it took way too long, but it got me thinking… If I broke down the major cleaning tasks to just five minutes a day per room, I could get a lot more accomplished in a little bit of time, and have extra time for the kiddos. This won’t replace the big deep clean, but it will help out with the clutter and little day to day messes.

I’m planning on spending just 5 minutes a day per room cleaning up a little here and there and decluttering daily too. Here is the break-down of the house:

  • Kitchen
  • Utility Room & 1/2 Bathroom
  • Dining Room
  • Living Room/Main Play Area
  • Foyer
  • James Office
  • Main Bathroom
  • Master Bedroom
  • Boy’s Room
  • Total time to clean 45 minutes

We’ll see how the experiment goes. Dylan usually takes a pretty good nap in the morning and in the afternoon, so I hope to get all of the cleaning accomplished then ;)

Washing the Washer

March 24th, 2008

Well I’m finally finished (fingers crossed) with washing all of the flu laundry. I had one more cleaning task at hand though, I needed to sterilize the washer. I wanted to try a Green method of cleaning the washer, so I decided to use the White Vinegar that I had purchased for dying the Easter Eggs.

I set the Water Temp on Hot, the load size on Small, and I added in 1/2 cup of White Vinegar to the washer and to the fabric softener cup. I then ran an imaginary load of laundry in the washer ;) I’m still getting used to the smell of the White Vinegar, I must admit it isn’t one of my favorites, but it got the job done! The washer is sparkling clean, and I know it is healthier too ;) I’ll definitely use the White Vinegar to clean up around the house more often, I just hope that my nose will cooperate ;)
