Gardening at Nico’s

May 31st, 2008

When I say that I am a gardening novice, I really, truly am. This Summer I’ve decided to start small, and hopefully grow into a gardener, even if I don’t happen to have a green thumb. I set my sites on 4 hanging baskets, a small Hosta garden, and a teeny tiny Veggie/Melon garden.

Only one and maybe half of a hanging basket are thriving. The other two have gone on to potted plant Heaven… I’m going to replant them with Inpatients, because it seems to be the only flower that I can grow (which is kinda funny). The Hosta are doing well, and the leftover Pansy that I over-purchased for the hanging baskets are doing great too. The veggie garden is another story…

I haven’t planted it yet… I’m still pulling weeds. Everyday Thade asks when can we plant our veggies, and I tell him just as soon as Mommy has gotten rid of all of the weeds. It is a slow going process and my thumbs are killing me ;) I hope I’m not too late in the season, I swear we had frost last month :)

How are your Summer Gardening Projects going?

    Hi Nicole,
I, too, am very far behind this year on my container garden. I did separate each of my 4 cherry tomato plants and planted them in their own container (just this past week). Hopefully they will survive. I am trying eggplant for the first time. I hope they vine and do well. We will see. I’m even behind on my hanging plants. Usually be now I have several on the front porch, but haven’t yet. I purchased some flowers yesterday (1/2 price). If it stops raining this weekend, I will try to get them out. You and the boys have a great weekend. See you soon. Love, Nana

Thanks Nana! Great buys on the new plants, you can’t beat 1/2 off. It is still raining here today, and it is supposed to rain tomorrow, looks like I’ll be another couple of days behind on the garden. Good luck with the Eggplants, those are so tasty!

Thanks Marva! How I wish I had your help over here :) I hope that we get a few veggies out of the garden, and Thade has even said that he will try the fresh veggies from our garden. Thanks again!
