Project Backyard

April 23rd, 2008

This Spring James and I are working on the backyard. We want to make it a fun place for the kiddos and a nice place for us to relax too. I started working on a small flower bed Monday, and yesterday I finally got a few plants planted ;)

I was worried that I got a little ahead of myself with the plants, but I ended up with just the right amount. I had six larger plants for the flower bed, plenty of pretty flowers for the four hanging baskets, and one pack left over for a large planter.

I just love the picture of Thade, he is telling me where to plant the flowers ;) The entire car ride home, he kept asking when can I water the plants. I’m glad that he is excited about all of the new gardening responsibilities ;)

I was pretty pleased (and James too) with how the flower bed turned out. A little bit of mulch really made all of the difference, and it made the project look great. Now I just need to get into the habit of keeping the plants watered ;)

Looks great! Mulch seems to keep the critters away in our flower beds as well as it looks pretty :D . Nice, sunny pictures!

Nicole, You did a wonderful job. Your backyard looks so inviting. I love that you included Thade and let him help. You make such wonderful memories.
P.S. I love the Hosta…they a a favorite childhood (fragrance) memory of mine. Thanks for continuing the tradition.

Thanks Susan! This was my very first attempt at gardening, so I just hope that the plants survive. My Mom and Brother have the green thumbs in the family, but not me. I liked the mulch, it really made the flower bed look finished, it was really heavy though, I bought two 30 pound bags ;)

Thanks Nana! I love the Hosta too, the big green leaves are just too pretty. Thade had a blast helping out in the garden, he loves to play in the dirt. I just wish that I had your green thumb, we’ll see if the plants make it a week under my care ;)

Thanks Maggie! We still have a long way to go, but I think the journey will be fun. I just need to make sure and remember to put on the Sunblock, I’m super Sunburned today ;)

Thanks Marva! I was really happy with the flower bed, I just hope that the plants do well. We have a big shade tree in the backyard that is just starting to bud.

Thanks Amy! It has been fun, but I must admit I’m not a big fan of the dirt. I’m hoping to start a veggie garden too, so we’ll see how that goes :)
